One of the hottest spa trends right now is chocolate facial.

YES!  a facial using chocolate! 🙂

Is it worth it to keep the leftover chocolate bars to make a facial frosting??

Believe it or not, besides being a delicious desert, chocolate has several ingredients that can positively affect your skin.

Cocoa beans of which chocolate is made, are high in antioxidant phenolic photochemical including  flavonoids. In fact, they are present at such high concentrations, that cocoa actually has a higher antioxidant potential than any other antioxidant like green tea.

Not all chocolate however have flavonoids. White chocolate for example has no flavonoids, while dark and high cocoa-content chocolate has much higher flavonoids than any other milk chocolate!

Chocolate also contains fats such as cocoa butter which is used as a moisturizer and anti-inflammatory agent.

Most studies of the health benefits of chocolate  have looked at the anti- inflammatory and cardiovascular effects of eating it, not at the benefits of applying it to our skin.

However, application of cocoa plant extracts containg phenolic photochemicals, prevents wrinkles from forming.

Chocolate facial is delicious and relaxing treatment.

Here is the recipe for the chocolate mask!  but be careful, don’t lick it off! 😉

1/3 cup dark cocoa

3 tablespoons heavy cream

2 tablespoons powdered oatmeal

Mix all the ingredients together and apply.

let it sit for 15 minutes then rinse off with warm water, and use a circular motion to exfoliate!

Salon du chocolat in Paris:

Most women worry about getting chocolate on their clothes. But at the annual Salon Du Chocolat, which took place in Paris, designers and chocolatiers broke this rule!

This may seem a little bizarre, but no other food item is considered more haute couture than chocolate.
