Low-carb beer is known as a leaner alternative, but if you are trying to reduce the extra calories you are taking from alcohol, that’s a smart but not a great idea!
That’s because the biggest amount of calories contributor in beer is not the carbohydrates, but it is alcohol.
Most low-carb beers have the same alcohol content than regular beers, but what differs is the carbohydrates content.
The regular beer has almost 13 grams of carbs per 12 fl oz (354 ml) and the light beer has 3 to 7 grams of carbs per same serving.
A regular beer has almost 150 calories per 354 ml compared to a low-carb beer that has 110 calories per 354 ml.
Read each label when deciding!
Pure alcohol contains about 7 calories per gram, which makes it nearly twice as fattening as carbohydrates or protein (both contain about 4 calories per gram) . Alcohol comes just under the caloric value of fat (9 calories per gram). This means that if you want to lose weight and reduce excess body fat, alcohol is not a good choice.
What if someone is on a low- carb diet??
Vodka or whiskey do not have carbohydrates in it because they are distilled, which means that they have nothing in their composition but purely alcohol. But that doesn’t mean that you can drink it as much as you want. These drinks will directly be metabolized as fat and will ruin your diet!
Back to the beer, If you love beers, be careful! The light beers are not necessary lower in carbohydrates. That’s why, consult the label if you ever insist on drinking one.
Light beer can be a good option for people who are on a low-carb diet but don’t neglect the fact that alcohol will be converted to fat. So have it occasionally:)
For people with diabetes, you also need to drink low- carb beers occasionally, because the alcohol in beers, makes your blood sugar drop and thus you will have hypoglycemia. This is because the liver, responsible of metabolizing proteins, fat and carbohydrates, will stop everything else to clean out the alcohol.
Now that the World Cup will be starting soon, and everyone is exciting to watch it, including me 😉 beer is the most popular drink to have! Right??
And we all know that beer goes with peanuts, so limit your intake to 2 to 3 beers a week, go for the light one (it still can be better than the regular), and try to have it with some cucumbers and carrots with salt & lemon! It is really tasty!! 😀
I like corona light! It has 5 grams of carbs. It has a good flavor and is not watery!!
