Sorbet and Sherbet...

It's summer time!

And everyone is surely in need of cold or even frozen desserts :)

Ice cream takes a big part during summer, but do you know that you can substitute that by sorbet or sherbet??

Let's talk about sorbet and sherbet here for people who don't know what are these  :)

Sorbet is a frozen dessert that is made from fruit puree and can include some flavorings. It can be whipped to lighten its texture. Sorbet contains no milk.

Like a sorbet, sherbet is a fruit puree product but milk is added for creaminess. But it contains no more than 2% butterfat. And this comes by law!

1/2 CUP OF SORBET: 70 calories, 0 grams of fat

1/2 CUP OF SHERRBET: 110 calories, 1.2 grams of fat

The amount of calories and sugar in your sorbet depends on the flavor you get.

Usually sorbet is not high in fiber, and can contain up to 25 grams of sugar but at the end it is considered a very good substitute to heavy and creamy desserts!

Try a nonfat-at nondairy sorbet and go for a fruit flavor rather than a chocolate variety.

Unlike ice cream and sherbet which contain milk, Sorbet is a great option for people who are lactose intolerant :)
