As you know by now, it is important to eat 3 small meals and have snacks in between during the whole day, and the whole idea is to increase your total metabolism, so that your body can burn more.
But what kind of snacks should you eat in between?
I personally love to munch on some good and healthy snacks but this doesn't mean that I don't munch sometimes and specifically during the weekends on some deserts I like!
I will give you some healthy snacks options that I love to eat between my meals, depending on what I feel like having everyday!
Follow me!
1- Bananas:
This fruit is known as a good source of potassium, and is so rich in vitamin B6 for ony 80 calories!
It has 4 grams of fiber, and is full of carbohydrate which is the main source of energy.
2- Bran muffin:
1 small muffin has 3 grams of fiber and makes you feel satisfied, plus it is a sweet!
1 small bran muffin has almost 90 calories, which is perfect as a snack!
3- Carrots:
One medium carrot meets your daily Vitamin A recommendation, which is needed for a better vision as well as for a heathier skin.
4- Rice & milk pudding:
I love this one! and specifically if it was cold!
It is perfect to have it in the afternoon, so refreshing for only 120 calories!
Try to make it at home by using skim milk
5- Fruit yogurt:
I love this one too! And I love the strawberry flavor!
Fruit yogurt provides all the vitamins and the calcium needed for better bones health.
The zero fat one gives you the sweet buzz for only 45 calories!!
6- Strawberries and sweeteners:
I am sure you heard about this combination but a lot of people use the white refined sugar instead of the sugar-free sugars! And when I say sugar-free sugars, that means the ones that are not absorbed by the body.
Try to have almost 20 strawberries with 2 teaspoons of any kind of sweetener, put in the fridge for few minutes before eating it!! TASTYYY!!
7- Raw walnuts and almonds:
These 2 snacks are great sources of omega -3 fatty acids, essential for heart and brain functions.
They are also rich in vitamin E and antioxidants, needed to fight against cancer and many diseases.
I am more a sweet person, but popcorn is my only salty favorite snack! And I don't mind having it everyday!
It is the best snack you can have at night while watching a movie or while chilling in front of your laptop!
It is full of fiber! Go for the fat-free microwavable one, one popped cup gives you only 80 calories!
Now that you have 8 healthy options, try to pick at least 3 of them and include them in your daily eating habits!
But still, one question left!!
What is the best snack I can eat at night? And to be more specific before going to bed??
At night, and before sleeping, if you feel hungry and wanna have something light and consistent, I will advise you to have a cup of skim milk or soya milk ( cold or hot), or to have a cup of low-fat yogurt.
Your body will still be working while sleeping, and this is what we call resting or basal metabolic rate. So don't worry about weight gain!
Plus milk and yogurt both contain big amounts of protein and the body works hard to digest it, so the metabolism will be even higher while digesting it, unlike carbs and fat which are easily digested.
So don't worry, if you feel hungry before bed time, milk and yogurt are great options!

Following are my current choices for the mid-morning snack. Let me know if you approve or disapprove any of them based on your knowledge & experience. The calorie intake is fine for me because of my active lifestyle.
1. Apple + low-fat yogurt. I cut the apple into pieces & drop them in the yogurt for a tasty combo. Sometimes, I replace the apple with a banana.
2. Black coffee (no sugar) with a peanut butter sandwich on whole wheat bread. It's a bit high in calorie but peanut butter is supposed to be good for you.
3. Black coffee (no sugar) with 1 bar of Trail-mix or similar energy bar (usually the bar is around 170 calories). There are some low-calorie bars, but I prefer the higher calorie ones due to my calorie needs.
4. Two servings of any fruit.
I eat mixed nuts (walnuts/almonds/cashew) in the afternoon before my workout. Does that seem okay?
errr. Forgot to mention, I choose any one from the four. Not all four at the same time
hello cajie! Your choices are great and yummy! Hehe specifically the first one, I will try it!
It is a perfect combination of proteins and carbs at the same time, plus a bit of god fat, which is excellent.
And variation is also the key, so you alter a lot, which means sometimes fat alone, carbs alone or both together.
Walnut and nuts are good choices of proteins and fat, also try to have before the gym some carbs for extra energy!
Cajie! You are the best!
